Many bands out there struggle to get their band signed because of one simple fact: They just don't get enough exposure! The best way to get your band signed is by firstly getting noticed.
Most bands don't realise that the best way to go towards getting signed in the end, is to just get yourself out there. Firstly you should contact your local pub, band club, or nearest establishment that will let you play. Get a few songs together that you have all practiced very hard, and make these your repetoire for the night. Pick your catchiest songs that you think will hook people to come revisit you next time your doing a gig.
Usually the venue will allow you to sell tickets yourself. This is your chance to get as many people as you can to the gig. Advertise tickets on facebook, twitter or any other social networking site. Spread it round your university, school or workplace and get people talking about it. A good method to create ticket sales is to tell people that the price you are selling for is special and that the tickets are usually twice this price! People will be more inclined to go for it, if they think they are getting a special discount.
Once you have sold out all the tickets, get your band together to practice even more so that all your songs are down to perfection. Now you are ready to get your first chance to impress the public. When at the gig, you should watch how other bands perform on stage and take inspiration from them. If you are lucky there may be a signed band playing at your venue too, so get your band to watch them and see how they perform.
When it's your turn to perform, stay relaxed and in control. You know what your doing and the songs are practiced to perfection by now so there is nothing to worry about. Most of all enjoy yourself while you play, because the more you enjoy it, the more the crowd will enjoy it too. If anything in the song does go wrong, just laugh it off and continue. No-one is in the crowd to harrass you, they just want to hear your music!
Once you are finished with the gig, thank everyone for coming to listen and if you have organised upcoming gigs then let them know about these too. Once you are off stage, try to talk to as much as the crowd as possibe so that you can get feedback for next time. Be nice to your fans and talk with them so that they are more inclined to come back to your next gig. Now that your first gig is in the past, you should look for the next venue and get advertising your next big performance. Keep dreaming because if you have taken this first step, your on the way to getting your band signed.
